Fair Trade
Fair Trade was inspired by contemporary artists whose performance-based practices infuse artistic production with community organizing. Interested in promoting creativity to a broader audience and building energetic relationships through cultural exchange, the projects are event-oriented, performative, and either participatory in nature or geared toward activating underutilized space. Each project is planned to occur at a site appropriate to the artist's proposals throughout Los Angeles.
Haircuts by Children
Haircuts by Children
by Darren O'Donnell and Naomi Campbell (both b. Canada, both live in Toronto)October 14 and 15, 2006 at two Highland Park Salons
"Haircuts by Children" is a whimsical performance that engages with the enfranchisement of children and trust in the younger generation, and invites contemplation of a very simple image: a child cutting an adults hair. The project continues the artists exploration of an aesthetic of civic engagement, with the materials being a grade 5-6 class, a hair salon, and a brave, willing public.
"Haircuts by Children" will take place on October 14 and October 15 from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm at two different Highland Park salons:
October 14th at Susy's Beauty Salon
6419 N. Figueroa St., LA CA 90042
